Do You Need to Renew?

A fictitious business name statement expires five years from the date it is filed in the County Clerk. A renewal of a fictitious business name statement must be filed prior to the date of expiration if you intend to continue doing business under that name and if there are no changes from the original.

Corporation, Limited Liability Company, Limited Partnership or Limited Liability Partnership

If you are renewing as a corporation, a limited liability company, a limited partnership, or a limited liability partnership, the county clerk will require a print-out issued by the California Secretary of State indicating the current existence and good standing of that business entity, no other state evidence will be accepted. This can be obtained by going to the California Secretary of State website at

How to Renew

A renewal requires completing the online application here and paying a $26 renewal filing fee, along with $5 for each additional business name/registrant.
