Process Server Registration - Individual

The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk has closed all offices to the public as a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  In the event your Process Server Registration expires March 1, 2020 – June 30, 2020 please complete the following steps:

  1. Please select the type of Process Server registration you are renewing, print out and complete your form entirely
  2. Mail in the completed form along with your payment and a color passport photo, picture of your valid ID, and the below requirements to:

  3. We will renew your registration and send you a temporary ID Card.Once we open you must make an appointment to get a replacement card that has your new photo and signature.

A Process Server registration is required for individuals who, for specific compensation, make more than 10 process services within this state during a calendar year.

How to Apply

The application is completed at one of our kiosks in the main Norwalk office. Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the application prior to going to window #6.

The registrant must appear in person and meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a valid, government-issued picture identification (established by a birth certificate, such as a driver’s license or passport).
  • The principal place of business or residential address must be located in the County of Los Angeles.
  • Present a bond in the amount of $2,000 naming the registrant as principal, providing the term of two (2) years, commencement date and expiration date.
  • Pursuant to Business and Professions Code § 22350, 22351.5 the registrant will be required to submit a completed Request for Live Scan application form confirming fingerprint submission to the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in order to verify the registrant has not been convicted of a felony. A 90-day temporary identification card will be issued until Live Scan results from the Department of Justice have been reviewed and accepted. Thereafter, the permanent identification card will be issued. Registrants can download the Process Server Request for Live Scan Application or obtain it in person at the County Clerk's office.

Note: Pictures for temporary and/or permanent identification cards will be taken at the time of registration.
