Certificate of Status Requirement (AB 181)

Effective January 1, 2016, pursuant to Assembly Bill 181:

For applicable Fictitious Business Name Statement filings, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk will require proof of current existence and good standing from the California Secretary of State; no other state evidence will be accepted:

"If the registrant is a corporation, a limited liability company, a limited partnership, or a limited liabilty partnership, the county clerk may require documentary evidence issued by the California Secretary of State and deemed acceptable by the county clerk, indicating the current existence and good standing of the business entity to be attached to the completed and notarized affidavit of identity."

Please note that no additional fee will be charged.

This requirement has been made in accordance with the legislative amendment of Business and Professions Code section 17913.
