HOW AND WHERE TO REGISTER You may register
by completing a registration-by-mail form. Forms are available
throughout Los Angeles County at most County buildings, city
halls, fire stations, libraries, State Motor Vehicle Offices,
Public Assistance Offices (DPSS, WIC), and post offices.Voter information
and/or registration forms can be obtained at the Registrar-Recorder/County
Clerk (RR/CC) Norwalk headquarters and all RR/CC district offices.
Registration-by-mail forms may be requested during regular business
hours by calling the Election Information Section in Norwalk,
or district offices, or the Voter Registration Request Line (800)
481-VOTE (8683), which is operational 24 hours a day, seven days
a week. The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk provides Registration
forms and assistance in six languages other than English in compliance
with federal and State laws (Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese,
Tagalog and Korean). Business hours for the Norwalk headquarters

is permanent. However, you should re-register if you have moved,
wish to change your political party
affiliation, or have changed your name. As a Los Angeles
County resident you may register to vote:
- If you are a citizen of the United
States;If you will be at least 18
years of age at the time of the next election;
- At least 15 days before an election
to be eligible to vote in that election.
Remember:
- You need to re-register if you
have moved, changed your name or wish to change
your political party affiliation;You may request that
an Affidavit of Registration be mailed to you by calling
the Registrar of Voters' general information telephone
numbers: (562) 466-1310 or (800) 481-VOTE, 24 hours a
day;
- Self-executing registration
forms that can be filled out and mailed to the Registrar
of Voters by anyone eligible to register to vote
are available at over 1,950 locations in Los Angeles
County, including most libraries, fire stations, post
offices, and city clerk offices. Assistance in registering
to vote is also provided by staff at the Department
of Motor Vehicles and some Social Services agencies.
Voter Records Information:
Information on your voter registration affidavit will be used by
elections officials to send you official information on the voting
process, such as the location of your polling place and the issues
and candidates that will appear on the ballot. Commercial use of
voter registration information is prohibited by law and is a misdemeanor.
Voter information may be provided to a candidate for office, a
ballot measure committee, or other person for election, scholarly,
journalistic, political, or governmental purposes, as determined
by the Secretary of State. Driver's license and social security
numbers, or your signature as shown on your voter registration
card, cannot be released for these purposes. If you have any questions
about the use of voter information or wish to report suspected
misuse of such information, please call the Secretary of State's
Voter Protection and Assistance Hotline ( 1-800-345-VOTE or 1-866-452-8682).
Certain voters facing life-threatening
situations may qualify for confidential voter status. For
more information, please contact the Secretary of State's
Safe At Home program or visit the Secretary of State's Web
site at www.sos.ca.gov.

Search
Information
available for a voter registered in Los Angeles County is the
person's name, political party, birth date/place, mailing address
if provided, and whether the registration is active or canceled.
Pursuant to State law the voter's residence address is confidential.
The general public is welcome to call or come into the office
noted below and access this information free of charge. Telephone
inquiries are limited to three names. Persons coming in the office
are required to sign a User's Log. If you are
unable to come into the office, you may mail in a written request
for voter record information. There is a $5 non-refundable voter
file record search fee charge per name and year checked. A certified
copy of a voter record can be obtained for $6.50, which includes
the search fee. A written request for a record must include the
person's name and birth date.

to obtain a certified copy of your own voter registration record,
the fee is $1.50. You may come into the office noted below and
complete a request for a certified copy, or mail a written request
for a certified copy. Your written request must include your

FOR NEW CITIZENS ABOUT REGISTRATION & VOTING
As
you prepare to take the oath of citizenship, the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors and Registrar-Recorder/County
Clerk extend their congratulations. As a United States citizen
you are encouraged to register to vote and actively take
part in choosing your government representatives and voting
on other issues on election ballots. Citizens
who will be at least 18 years of age at the time of the next
election are eligible to register to vote. Registration must
take place at least 15 days before the election. You must also
re-register by the 15-day deadline for an election to change
your address, name or political party.After
the naturalization swearing-in ceremony you may complete the
registration-by-mail form provided and mail it to the Registrar-Recorder/County
Clerk. You will receive a notice of your eligibility to vote
within a few weeks after your registration is processed.Persons
who become citizens after the close of registration may register
and vote at the Registrar of Voters office between the 14th
and 7th day before an election. New citizens must present a
Certificate of Naturalization and declare they have established
residence in the county.You

law permits you to register with one of the seven qualified
political parties: American Independent, Democratic, Green,
Libertarian, Natural Law, Reform, Republican or as a non-partisan
voter. Persons must be registered with one of the qualified
political parties to vote for a partisan candidate of that
party in a Primary election. Exception: Non-partisan
voters (i.e. persons not affiliated with any qualified political
party) are allowed to vote for any candidate regardless of
the candidate's political affiliation beginning with the March
2002 Primary Election, if political parties adopt
party rules authorizing such voters to do so.Links

each election, official sample ballot booklets containing candidate
and measure information are mailed to all registered voters
to assist in making informed choices before voting.It
is recommended that you mark your sample ballot pamphlet and

state and county ballot measures, are available in Chinese,

Day, the polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The address
of the polling place will be printed on the sample ballot.

is now available by telephone. An automated system will prompt
callers to key in their zip code, date of birth, and street
number. The system will interact with the database and obtain
